Flammable Solid/sludge recycling: We are also able to recycle flammable solids and flammable sludges such as solvent contaminated rags, paint wastes, glues, inks and resins. These materials are passed through a process that recovers the organic component as a high calorific value gas which is used as a fuel. Any solids from the process are separated by magnetism into metallic and non metallic fractions. The metals are recovered; the remaining solid fraction is re-used as a building aggregate.

WASTE AMMONIA AND ACIDS

Waste ammonia can be difficult to treat in the traditional waste management sector. Blue Environmental have teemed up with a specialist company who are able to use ammonia and associated ammonium compounds to produce a high quality product.

Materials of interest include:

ammonia
ammonium phosphate
ammonium chloride
ammonium sulphate
sulphuric acid
phosphoric acid

It is often worth re-assessing waste streams as new technologies become available and existing technologies are further developed and refined. What may have been the norm a few years ago has more than likely become obsolete in todays market place.

NEW LEGISLATION

The new Waste (England and Wales) Regulations came into force on 29 March 2011. Key features include:

Require businesses to confirm that they have applied the waste management hierarchy when transferring waste
Make amendments to hazardous waste controls and definition

New Employee

Blue Environmental are delighted to welcome Julie Shaw as a new Sales Administrator.

Julie has returned to the workplace afer being a full time mother to her three young children. She has previously held similar positions in both the defence and food industries.

In her spare time, Julie enjoys kickboxing, cooking and walking. We wish her well in her new challenge for many years to come.

Charity Donation

Blue Environmental were one of a number of sponsors of one of Lancashire’s biggest charity events of the year in October – The Community Foundation Ball held at the Gibbon Bridge Hotel in the picturesque Forest of Bowland.

The event attracted nearly 400 guests and raised £50,000 thanks to donations on the night and extra government funding. Money raised from the event will go towards good causes with Lancashire in 2011.

2010 - 100 K Ribble Way Challenge

After 2009's first attempt at the 100 k Ribble Way Challenge, the team sponsored by Blue Enviornmental tried again. This time in near perfect dry and warm conditions.

The team planned the event with military precision and came home second in 23 hours, a tremendous achievement.

Talk is now of the 24 hour 85 mile Isle of Mann Parish walk in 2011. Good luck boys.

Striding Edge

The waste industry is a complex one in many ways, and so it is occassionally a relief to take a break and get a different view - literally!

The Striding Edge website is a walkers paradise, and we at Blue Environmental and Blue Healthcare (our sister company), benefit greatley from its founder, Sean, and his regular walks around the Lake District.

It is a recent aim of the company directors to complete the 214 Lakeland fells commonly called the Wainwright Fells; and to date we still have nearly 200 to go.

Crinkle Crags was the latest conquest, bagged in September in glorious late summer sunshine. We will keep you up-to-date with our progress!

2009 - 100 K Ribble Way Challenge

In July 2009, 25 teams set off in the middle of the night with the aim of completing the 100 kilometre Ribble Way Challenge going from north of Settle in Yorkshire to Preston in Lancashire, within 30 hours.

Blue Environmental sponsored a team comprising Dave, Stephen, Ross and Mark, all from Chipping, Lancashire. The team managed to raise over £1000 for the Sue Ryder cancer charity by completing the walk in around 27 hours.

Unfortunately, one of the original team (not pictured) had to pull out due to an injury with only a few miles to go.

Special praise must also go to the team's support who drove ahead to each checkpoint to ensure refreshments were available.
